GAMING stereo headphones, a tiny scanner and a gadget pack are this week's must-have toys.
TINY SCANNER
Photo scanners don’t need to be the size of a printer.
The Planon ScanStik has more in common with a pen than a traditional scanner in the looks department, but can scan documents and photos at a resolution up to 600dpi. The rechargeable scanner records images to a MicroSD card and can transfer them to a PC with a USB cable.
ROBOTIC PLAY
This gadget can deliver the most sophisticated game of fetch that you’re likely to see. The Sphero is a robotic ball that can be controlled with an Apple or Google-based tablet or smartphone.
Users download Sphero apps to play golf, a type of drawing and even colour-matching games. Users create challenges and film the results.
GADGET PACK
STM Bags, $109.95 (medium)
STM Bags’ undercover laptop bag has received a makeover. The Bondi company’s canvas backpack comes in a new style called "hood", that offers space for a 15-inch laptop, has a tablet pocket, and a hidden, zippered pocket for holding extras.
Two pockets can hold a drink or umbrella, and the bag comes in olive and black.
GAME STEREO
This game headset is designed to make you think you’re surrounded. The GameCom 780 headset from Plantronics uses Dolby ProLogic IIx technology to create a 7.1-channel surround-sound effect inside the large earpads, while buttons let users control the volume.
The headset’s mic also features noise-cancellation.
MAC BOOK
Western Digital, $369.99
Western Digital’s new hard drive for Macs works wirelessly like a Time Capsule, but is also portable like a regular hard drive.
The My Passport Studio device will store up to two terabytes of photos, videos, documents and more, and can be accessed over a wi-fi network or plugged into a Mac with a FireWire cable for faster uploads.
